THE SCRAPER

In this same section we have already spoken of "lu ritrànghele", the tool used to gather or spread the embers in the wood oven.

The tool shown here, the Italian name for which is unknown to us, because of its shape reminds us of the tool above mentioned.

Both, in any case, were utilized in the making of bread.

In fact this tool is much shorter than the other similar to it (it is one span long), and it was used to scrape the bread dough from the sides and from the bottom of "la mese" or of "l'arche" ( wooden containers shaped like chests in which the bread was made and later stored after baking it).

So like "lu ritrànghele", even this tool has disappeared now that bread is no longer made at home.
