TWO UNLUCKY SISTERS

This 1920 picture shows two sisters still unaware of their future fate.

The young woman standing would soon die of consumption, which, in those years, claimed many victims throughout Italy. She would leave behind two young children.

The other will reach old age, but will see the death of four of her five children, stricken by tragedy or illness: the youngest, attracted by the beautiful emerald green color of the container of a liquid, accidentally drank rat poison.
