A very beautiful picture of 1918.

The two babies are both boys, in spite of the "dress" worn by the younger one.

Besides that, the picture has another singular characteristic: it shows the use of photomontage. Since this was a period of emigration on a large scale, the family nucleus was often broken up for many years, and it wasn't always easy or financially possible to come home from abroad for a visit to the family members. It was clearly easier to send a family picture. Probably, by utilizing a bust size photograph, the picture was retouched. In fact, as it can be seen, the head of the family is not only out of focus, but seems to be in the picture only with his upper body.

Presumably, at this time, such a technique was reserved for the more affluent and considered avant-garde.
